Mary Ellen 1923-2014

John’s mother, Mary Ellen, passed away on September 16, 2014.  2010-ProgramShe seemed to have been doing very well in her new environment at Atria Senior Living, and we all thought she was blossoming with the physical activity and social activities she had not had for a number of years taking care of Kess.  She had a serious stroke on September 9.  We were on a ship between the Greek island of Rhodes and Turkey at the time and it took us two days to get back to Orlando.  Fortunately we got back in time that she still recognized us.

Family gathered for her memorial service.

Greece 2014

In early September we toured Athens and several of the Greek Isles in the Aegean Sea.

This is the view from the rooftop garden of our hotel in Athens — that’s the Acropolis in the background. 2014-09-05 07.54.02 (2)Here we are atop the Acropolis of Athens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Parthenon.  The Parthenon was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of the city of Athens and goddess of wisdom. It was built under the instructions of Pericles, the political leader of Athens in the 5th century BC. The Parthenon was constructed between 447 and 438 BC and its sculptural decoration was completed in 432 BC.IMG_1631
